NPD investigating threatening message at NHS

The Newton Police Department is investigating a threatening message discovered Thursday at the Newton High School.

Newton Police Lt. Scott Powell said a message written in dust in a school bathroom was discovered Thursday. The message threatened an act of violence on Mon., Dec. 10.

“We’re going to have police presence out at there to be safe,” he said of Dec. 10. “The School resource officer is investigating the threat as to who made it.”

District public information officer Samantha Anderson said the district takes all threats seriously, the investigation is ongoing and parents will be updated if more information becomes available.

“We’ve been working with the police department on the matter,” she said. “Student and staff safety is a top priority.”
Anderson said activities at the high school will continue as planned.
