A Newton man is dead following a head-on collision on I-135 Tuesday.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, Travis Smith, 41 was driving a 2000 Buick Century northbound on the highway when his vehicle left the road, crossed the median and crashed head-on into a 2011 Ford Flex heading southbound driven by Emily Paulus, 16 of Hillsboro.
Smith died of his injuries. The log said Smith’s family has been notified.
Paulus and her mother Laura Paulus, 43, also of Hillsboro were transported to Wesley Medical Center both with suspected serious injuries.
All were wearing seatbelts.
The report does not say if weather was a factor but it had been snowing intermittently throughout the day.
