The Harvey County Attorney’s office has filed official charges in district court on behalf of four victims against Andrew F. Martinez, 35, Newton, who stands accused of murder.

County Attorney David Yoder said the charges include a first-degree murder charge for the death of Robert Flores Sr., a domestic battery charge for actions against a related family member, and two simple battery charges on behalf of two separate juvenile victims.

Yoder said that in total his office was filing charges on behalf of four separate victims.

The charges stem, according to the Newton Police Department, from a fight reported at 10:27 p.m. Dec. 31., which started inside a house at the 300 block of SE Fourth Street and spilled out into the lawn.

Police responded, found Flores injured and attempted to provide medical treatment to Flores, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police shortly after arrested Martinez on foot after speaking with witnesses. Martinez was first treated at Newton Medical Center for a broken hand before being booked into the Harvey County jail.

Yoder said he requested  a $500,000 bond is set for Martinez, who is being held in the jail.
