Obituary: Raymond Keating

Raymond P. Keating, 82 years, passed peacefully on July 7, 2021 of natural causes in Lenexa, Kansas.

Raymond Patrick Keating was born Sept. 9, 1938 to Peter Francis Keating and Mary Veronnica (Volkmuth) Keating in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. The family relocated to Tucson, Arizona in 1947 due to his father’s health. Ray met Doris Gayle Burri in Tucson in 1964. They married June 28, 1965 and recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with three daughters and one son.

Ray was a Christian, a truth seeker, a loyal spouse, loving father and grandfather, and a grocer who could turn a bad store into a good one. He made many friends over the years as the family relocated 24 times. He was a tall goofy guy who smelled of baby powder, never met a stranger and could scare you with his loud sneeze.

He is survived by his wife Doris, Lenexa, Kansas; daughters Rhonda (Mike) Palmer, Overland Park, Kansas; Rita (Kelly) Gerbrandt, Carman, Manitoba, Canada; Rachael (Patrick) Pruitt, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; son Roger (Becky) Keating, Halstead, Kansas; and eight grandchildren Josh, Jack and Keegan Gerbrandt, Zach Palmer, Connor and Sally Keating, Jacob and Kenna Pruitt. Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Peter Donald Keating.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 26 at 1 p.m. at Kaufman Funeral Home, 418 Chestnut St, Halstead, Kansas. Burial will follow at Halstead Cemetery.
