OBITUARY: William ‘Bill’ Chupp Jr.

William “Bill” Chupp Jr. was born on January 2, 1944, and went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2021, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 8 days. He spent his entire life in the Chouteau area. After high school, Bill spent a year at Hesston College in Kansas, where he took business classes that helped him later when he had his own business. He was then drafted so Bill chose to do alternative service. He went through the Mennonite Board of Missions and spent two years in interior Brazil, on a ten-thousand acre cattle ranch, building fences, roads, and butchering cattle.
Bill came home from Brazil in 1968 and at the age of 24, took over Chupp Implement Company that his dad had started some years earlier. He owned that business until 2018, when he retired. He was a well-known and well-loved business man and rancher. He enjoyed working with his cows.
Bill hosted the Torchbearer Youth Retreats for many years. He was an active member and supporter of Zion Mennonite Church in Pryor, where he attended from his youth. He especially enjoyed the Mennonite Relief Sale held yearly in Enid, Oklahoma.
He was very active in Sertoma (Service to Man Kind) Club, where he had served a few times as President, He was also a Gideon. He would present the Gideon history to local churches. Bill loved people and befriended everyone he met. He has scholarships in two colleges to help with the cost of education to worthy recipients. He supported too many ministries to mention here.
Bill married Edith Miller on September 24, 1993, passing away just two weeks shy of their 28th anniversary.
He is survived by his wife, Edith (Miller) Chupp, and his sisters, Mary of La Junta, Colorado, Ruby and husband Jim Graber of Newton, Kansas, Ann and husband Steve Elliot of Jenks, sister Peggy and husband Billy Dickson of Manitou Springs, Colorado; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Amanda (Troyer) Chupp, two brothers, Levi and Floyd Ray Chupp, a sister, Barbara Rasberry and his step-mother Ann Chupp.
We will be forever grateful, for all the prayers, calls and cards.
The viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, from 5-8 p.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church Fellowship Center, 429 E 450 Rd, Pryor, OK 74361.
The celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church Fellowship Center, 429 E 450 Rd, Pryor, OK 74361, Pastor Duey Matthews will officiate. Interment will follow at Zion Mennonite Cemetery.
Friends may give in Bill’s memory to the Hesston College Scholarship Fund or Rogers State College Scholarship Fund.
