Obituary: Walter ‘Bruff’ Edward McQuade

Walter ?Bruff? Edward McQuade, 92, died on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at Bethesda Home in Goessel. He was born to Edward and Elizabeth McQuade on Feb. 14, 1923 in Athens, Ohio. He attended Colgate University in New York, where he played football and received All American honors. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946.

Bruff married Billye Rhue Stewart in June 1945. They had three children, Chuck, Shelley and Lori. Bruff was a credit life insurance salesman, working for various companies. He also had experience as an entrepreneur, owning a liquor store and bowling alley in El Dorado. Bruff was a mmber of St. Mary Catholic Church. Family was very important to Bruff, and he also enjoyed sports, especially golfing and playing baseball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters, and his two wives: Billye and Dorothy McQuade. He is survived by his children: Chuck, Shelley and Lori; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a sister: Patricia Golden.

A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Newton. Further arrangements are pending with Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
