OBITUARY: Viola Esther Strausz

Viola Esther Strausz, 93, passed away April 3, 2022, at Mercy Hospital, Moundridge. She was born March 31, 1929, in Newton to Lyle D. and Lelah (Crawford) Koby.

Viola graduated from Sedgwick High School in 1947.

She was a devoted homemaker and farmer’s wife. Viola worked for the Moundridge Ledger newspaper for 35 years.

Viola married Melvin P. Strausz on Aug. 17, 1947, at Sedgwick. He died March 24, 2013.

Since 1963, she was an active member of Moundridge United Methodist Church, where she held several positions. Viola and her husband were leaders of the Liberty 4-H Club and Hesston Shoe Scuffers Square Dance Club. Viola was also a member of the Garden EHU (Extension Homemakers Unit).

She was survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; son, Stacy Kent Strausz, who died in 1973; two sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 9, at Moundridge United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mound Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m., Friday, April 8, at Moundridge Funeral Home with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested to Moundridge United Methodist Church, in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, P.O.
