Verene Eason, 94, died July 2, 2021, at Bethesda Home in Goessel, Kan. She was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Montezuma, Kan., to Peter and Lena (Wedel) Jantz. On Feb. 16, 1946, she married Homer J. Eason in Newton, Kan., and he preceded her in death on July 30, 2005.
Verene attended Meridian Baptist Church in Newton and worked in the transportation department at the former Northview Developmental Services in Newton.
She had a wide variety of interests, including crocheting, drawing, tending flowers and bird watching. Verene also had a love of music and enjoyed singing, playing piano and guitar. Her greatest joy was being a mother to her large family and not only caring for them but also watching out for the neighborhood children, which she thought as her own.
She is survived by her sons, Gary, Larry, Billy, Ronald (Cathy), Ricky, George, Homer and John Eason, and one daughter, Jolene Eason. She is also survived by a brother, Dalin Jantz, and sister, Evelyn Jantz. She has 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
Verene was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; parents; sisters, Neola, Sadie, Lilian, Elvera and Jane; and two brothers, Verlin and Ines.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 8, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Duane Moraine presiding. Visitation was 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Petersen Funeral Home. A private interment will be in the Restlawn Garden of Memory Newton.
