Obituary: Velma ‘Vicki’ J. Howard

Velma “Vicki” J. Howard, 85, died on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Newton Presbyterian Manor.

She was born on Aug. 19, 1930, the daughter of Augusta (Dalke) and John R. Klassen in Hillsboro, Kansas.

She married Joe L. Howard on Sept. 15, 1950, at the First Baptist Church in Newton. He preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1999.

Vicki retired from her clerical position after many years of service at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. She had also worked at Newton Recreation Center in the office, and was a former teacher’s aide with USD 373 of Newton.

She held her membership with Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and was a part of the United Methodist Women’s Groups and the quilting group.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff and wife Tracy Howard, Garden Plain, and Greg and wife Margaret Howard, Chesterfield, Mo.; daughter, Priscilla and husband Steve Webb, Newton; brother, Ken Klassen and wife Meredith, Portland, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and two sisters, Viola Leighton and Virginia Brown.

Funeral Services were Monday, July 18, at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton. Burial will be at Restlawn Garden of Memories.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Heights United Methodist Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of the funeral home at 120 E Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.

Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton was in charge of arrangements.
