Obituary: Susan Llamas Rangel

Susan Llamas Rangel, 71, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at her home in Newton.

Born April 21, 1945, in Newton, she was the third daughter of seven children to Guadalupe Llamas and Marian (Saenz) Llamas.

Susan married John Micheal Rangel on Dec. 26, 1968.

Susan was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. She enjoyed bowling, traveling across the country attending her children’s and grandchildren’s extracurricular activities, working jigsaw puzzles, frequenting the movie theater with husband John, listening to Ruben Ramos and smooth jazz.

Susan is survived by her husband, John Rangel; her children, Chris Rangel and his wife Melinda Rangel of Newton, Tracie (Rangel) Greening and her husband Michael Greening of Goddard, and Taná (Rangel) Kelly and her husband Michael Kelly of Owasso; her sister, Mary Short and husband George Short of Wichita; her brother, Mark Llamas and his companion Gloria Arellano of Newton; eight grandchildren, Jenna (Rangel) Koerner, Jared Rangel, Michael Greening, Trey Greening, Gregory Greening, Matthew Rangel, Michael D. Kelly and Mitchell Kelly; and one great-grandson, Dominic Kelly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe Llamas and Marian (Saenz) Llamas; brothers, Guadalupe Llamas Jr., Phillip Llamas, Gary Llamas; and sister, Rose (Llamas) Martinez.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. All are invited to attend the rosary 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Newton. The family will greet friends following the Rosary. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Newton. Burial will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody immediately following the funeral mass.

Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
