OBITUARY: Susan Jane Vogts

Susan Jane Vogts, 69, former resident of Hesston, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at The University of Kansas Medical Center after battling pancreatic cancer.

Susan was born Feb. 20, 1952, in Burlington, the daughter of Harold Edwin and Virginia Mary (Weigel) Stewart. Susan was a 1970 graduate of Waverly High School and then attended McPherson County Community College where she received her Bachelors of Science degree. She was a long-term resident of McPherson County having raised two children, until moving to Hesston. She was an avid follower of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.  Her joys in life were visiting with friends and family, reading, cooking and creating a garden retreat in her own backyard. What she cherished most of all was seeing her granddaughters Carlyn and Kaylie. Susan’s lifelong career was in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry as she was employed at Pfizer in McPherson for 30-plus years. She enjoyed part-time work at a local greenhouse and volunteered gardening assistance at the arboretum.

She will always be remembered for her kind and gentle soul.

Survivors include two children, Kerry Yamada of Leawood and Darren Yamada of Ft. Worth Texas; grandchildren, Carlyn Jones, Kaylie Yamada, Julian Yamada and Hayden Yamada; two brothers and two sisters; as well as many nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston.
