Obituary: Sue Fast

Sue Jean Fast, 96, died Jan. 19, 2022, at Schowalter Villa, Hesston.

BURRTON—Sue Jean Fast, 96, died Jan. 19, 2022, at Schowalter Villa, Hesston. She was born July 14, 1925, in Augusta, to Clarence and Ruby (Waggoner) Greathouse.

Sue graduated from Burrton High School in 1943. She retired from Burrton USD-369 Schools, after 40 years of service. Sue enjoyed puzzles, coloring, and was loved by the students she served working for USD-369. Above all though, her husband, children, and grandchildren were the light of her life. Sue was a member of First Christian Church, Burrton.

On Oct. 9, 1943, Sue married her high school sweetheart, Melvin L. “Mel” Fast, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They shared 75 years of marriage, before his death on Dec. 25, 2018.

Sue is survived by: sons, Michael Fast of Burrton, and Dan Fast (Debbie) of Hutchinson; daughter, Jennifer Kimball (Doug) of Burrton; grandchildren, Kelly Fast (Hallie), Molly Simms (Cody), and Jana Lange (Ryan); and great-grandchildren, Veronica Fast, Hugo Simms, Oscar Simms, Aubree Lange, Brylee Lange, and Eleanor Fast.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; an infant brother; sisters, Betty Clark and Treva Banworth, brother, Jerry Greathouse; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Fast.

Private family graveside service will take place in Burrton Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, Burrton or Burrton USD-369, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
