OBITUARY: Samuel Dean Fritts

Samuel Dean Fritts, 59, of Newton, died on Dec. 10, 2020, at his home in Asbury Park, Newton.

He was born Feb. 13, 1961, in Ottawa, the son of Tommie “J” & Iris Nadine (Smith) Fritts (Waltman).

Sam, at age of 4, had an illness that required other people to take care of him. He lived at home with his parents until his adult life. He really enjoyed being around family and eating his favorite foods, listening to music and watching some television shows. He enjoyed summer camp for the handicapped, where he had an opportunity to try different things. He enjoyed being outside going on strolls in his wheelchair. In his adult life, he moved to KNI in Topeka for several years and made lots of friends. He then moved back to Newton and had a home at Rescare. His last five years he made a home at Asbury Park, where he continued to make friends on his journey.

Sam is survived by his sister, Nadine (Barry) Barber; stepsister, Teri (Jost) Young; stepbrothers, Mark Jost, Toto (Leo) Jost, Donald Jost; many nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces.

Sam was preceded in death by his dad, Tommie “J” Fritts; his mother, Iris Nadine (Smith) Waltman; stepmother, Bonnie Fritts; his brother, Tommie “J” Fritts ll; his stepbrothers, Chris Jost and John Jost.

There was a visitation from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, followed by a small graveside service, which will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, at Restlawn Cemetery with Pastor Mark Hoover presiding.
