OBITUARY: Ruben Jose Gonzelez

NEWTON—Ruben Jose Gonzalez, 48, died Thursday, Dec.10, 2020, at his home in Newton.

He was born on May 21, 1972, in Newton, the son of Raymond and Hope Esperanza Terrones Gonzalez. Ruben was a lifelong resident of Newton, graduating from Newton High School in 1990.

He married Jamie Estrada on Oct. 5, 1996, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.

Ruben retired as a lead man in the paint room at Norcraft Manufacturing in Newton in January 2019, where he had been worked for 32 years.

He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Ruben was an avid fisherman, winning several Master Angler awards through the years. He loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jamie; his six children, Deven Gonzalez and his fiancée, Rachel Holden, Orlando Gonzalez, Ruben Gonzalez, Jr., Jamie Ray Gonzalez, Marcel Gonzalez and Marcella Gonzalez; his siblings, Gilbert Gonzalez, Raymond V. Gonzalez, Robert Gonzalez and his wife, Janie, and Cecilia Smith and her husband, Robert; and one granddaughter, “Kikki” Sanchez all of Newton.

Ruben is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Vincent T. Gonzalez.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 22, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.

Private family inurnment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

There will be no visitation or viewing as cremation has been effected.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society and the Dillon Nature Center in Hutchinson. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Kan., 67114.
