OBITUARY: Richard C. Oswald

Richard C. “Rich” Oswald, 65, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at his Newton residence.  He was born Dec. 2, 1956, in Newton to Carl J. and Judith J. (Brainard) Oswald.  On Dec. 21, 2007, he married Jacquie L. Entz at Newton, and she survives of the home.

Rich was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Newton.

He was retired as a welder from AGCO in Hesston.

Rich faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army being honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1978. He was a patriotic man who had a deep love of his country. He was a member of the VFW Auxiliary 971.

While relaxing, he enjoyed following baseball and his favorite football team the San Francisco 49ers. He also enjoyed learning new ways to BBQ and sharing his grilling with family and friends. He had a love of animals and supported the local Caring Hands Humane Society.

Rich was known for not knowing a stranger and being a friend to all. His greatest joy however was his family. He looked forward to spending time with his loving wife, mother, children, grandchildren and brother.

He is survived by his wife Jacquie of the home; his mother Judith Oswald; son Justin Oswald; daughters Chrissy and Jared Stubby and their girls; Melissa and James Morris and their son; and Andrea and Jarret Baker and their girls and son.  He also is survived by a brother John Oswald, and together he has seven grandchildren.

Rich was preceded in death by his father Carl Oswald and son Christopher Oswald.

Funeral service with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at Zion Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Kurt Letcher presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a private family interment.

Memorials may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society in care of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
