Obituary: Peggy Hwa

Peggy Hwa passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018, at Newton Presbyterian Manor.

Peggy was born on March 9, 1928, on a farm in Kiangying, Kiangsu, China, to Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Zia. She was the eighth daughter of nine children. Shortly after birth, she was adopted by her maternal aunt and lived with her and her maternal grandmother. She graduated from the Red Cross Nursing School in Shanghai where she met her future husband, Eugene “Gene” Ching Hwa. They married on June 16, 1950, in Youngstown, Ohio. Gene was a radiologist until his passing on December 24, 1986.

Peggy led an active life playing bridge, golf and tennis as well as skiing. She also traveled extensively. She was a member of P.E.O., Junior Reading Circle and the Trinity Heights United Methodist Church. Peggy will be remembered for her delightful sense of humor, quick smile, determination and competitive spirit.

She is survived by her children: Linda Hwa Davis and spouse, Michael K. Davis, Deborah Ann Hwa Froelich and spouse, Dana Alan Froelich, and Eugene David Hwa; four grandchildren, Jason Paul Froelich, Mark Alan Froelich, Kendra Joy Hwa Davis and Cole Eugene Hwa Davis; and five great-grandchildren, Allison Nicole Froelich, Andrew James Froelich, Isaac Alan Froelich, Evan Paul Froelich and Emily Grace Froelich.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene C. Hwa and parents Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Zia.

Memorials have been established for the Presbyterian Manor-Good Samaritan Fund and Trinity Heights United Methodist Church.
