OBITUARY: Pedro (Pete) Estrada Jr.

Heaven opened its doors to welcome Pedro (Pete) Estrada, Jr., on March 17, 2021, in the company of his loving wife and daughters in Hutchinson, after a courageous battle with COVID-19 and other health issues. By honoring his gift of life, he donated to the Midwest Transplant.
Pete graduated from Newton High School in 1973 and enrolled at Kansas State University, where he was involved with ROTC and Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. Pete graduated KSU in 1978 with a degree in criminology and began his career as a probation officer in the city of Hutchinson, a post he held until retirement in 2000. In 1980, Pete married Donna Luginbill of Newton.
A man who invested in relationships and his community, Pete was a faithful member of OLG Church in Newton throughout High School and remained an active member of OLG in Hutchinson serving in various roles, such as Director of CYO, member of the Fiesta committees, and traveled on a youth mission. He participated in the OLG adoration for 25-plus years. Pete served his country as a Lieutenant in the medical branch of the Army Reserve. In addition, Pete volunteered as a coach for nearly 10 years of girls slow pitch softball, highlighted with appearances in the world and state tournaments.
While his passion centered on his faith and family, Pete had many hobbies and therefore many friends with whom he enjoyed spending time. He was an avid traveler, bowler, fast pitch player, gambler and pool player. Most of all, he is remembered as the best father, uncle and friend who took the time to play a board game, or have a conversation about his many collections. He had a natural ability to connect and lift up those around him.
Pete is survived by his wife, Donna of Hutchinson; daughter, Christy (Moline, Ill.); daughter, Danielle Estrada (Las Vegas, Nev.); daughter, Elena Hill (Derrick) Las Vegas, Nev.); loving mother, Lydia Estrada of Newton; sisters, Patrice Olais (Raymond), DiAnne Decker (Ronald) of Newton and Christina Alvarez (Wichita) and six grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins that have enjoyed every minute of joy he brought to their lives. He is proceeded in death by his son, Ramon Miguel and his father, Peter Estrada, Sr.
Parish Rosary was held March 24, followed by Mass of Christian Burial, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Charles Seiwert officiating. Military honors were conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to the Pedro Estrada, Jr. Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N.
