Obituary: Morris E. Laswell

Morris E. Laswell passed away on June 30, 2018, in Hutchinson.

Morris was born on March 8, 1928, in Newton to Walter and Rosella (Pearl) Laswell.

Morris was the third child of five. He was born with a mental disability that limited his ability to read, write and learn.

Morris was a small child when two of his brothers and father died. This left his mother with three small children to raise during the Depression. Pearl encouraged the children to become Christians and to attend church and Vacation Bible School.

Through an unusual turn of events, a young Morris accepted Jesus as his Savior.

He grew to have a real love for people and was involved in a Tract Ministry that proclaimed salvation for all.

Morris worked for his uncle who operated an automotive salvage yard. He was a longterm resident of Newton but had recently been living in Hutchinson, where he was receiving physical and mental care.

He is survived by his siblings, James Laswell and Betty Dicke of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pearl; father; and two brothers.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Newton Bible Church.

Morris will be remembered as someone who persevered through varied mental disabilities and had a big heart and love for people and his Lord and Savior.

Petersen Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements.
