Mary Lou (Marlin) Holt died Oct. 2, 2023, at NMC in Newton.
She was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Greenville, Oklahoma, to Jesse Edward and Eva M. (Clinkscale) Marlin. On Nov. 27, 1954, she married Leonard J (James) Holt. They were married 51 years when he preceded her in death.
Mary Lou is survived by her four daughters, Karen (John) Dater, Sue (Frank) Meacham, Marilyn (Carl) Konecny and Rhonda (Shane) Preble; her honorary niece/daughter, Kathy Hirschler (Tim); one sister, Kay Long; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; brother, Ray Marlin; and sisters, Charlsie Renfro, Jessie Schmidt, and Barbara Smith.
Mary Lou lived in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico before moving to Kansas. She lived many years in Sedgwick. She worked in food service and housekeeping for the Sedgwick Convalescent Center and later became a CNA and worked in Sedgwick and Anthony, Kansas.
Mary Lou enjoyed time with friends and family, word puzzles, bingo and volunteer activities. She was able to travel after her retirement, including dream trips to Ireland and Rome. She was a K.C. Chiefs and Wichita State Shockers fan. She will be remembered by many for her caring nature, balanced by her quick wit
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
Memorials may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
