OBITUARY: Mary Elaine Higgins

WALTON—Mary Elaine Higgins, 77, died Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at Newton Medical Center.

She was born on Feb. 2, 1944, in Newton, the daughter of Ervin B. and Agatha Friesen Goering. Mary was raised in the Moundridge area where she graduated from Moundridge High School.

She married Howard Eugene Higgins Jr., on January 27, 1966, in Inman. After being married, they lived in Newton until moving to Walton in the early 1970s.

Through the years, Mary had worked as a phlebotomist at several area clinics, later retiring from Newton Medical Center.

She was a longtime member of the Walton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Howard of the home in Walton; daughters Cindy Simons and husband Brian of Walton and Michelle Martin and husband Gary of Wichita; brother Jim Goering of Newton; sister Velma Voth of Minneapolis, Ks.; and two granddaughters Cora Martin of Wichita and Kaitlyn Simons of Walton.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents.

Private memorial services will be at Walton United Methodist Church.

A memorial has been established with the Parkinson Foundation, and contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
