Mary Catherine “Cathie” Ruth was born Dec. 9, 1937, in Newton to Robert Wilderman and Cecile Marie (Stratton) Ruth.
She died on Aug. 30, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Cathie attended all 12 years of her early education in Hesston, graduating from Hesston Academy in 1955. She then pursued her nursing studies at Bethel Deaconess School of Nursing, Newton, receiving her R.N. degree in 1960.
The major part of her nursing career was spent at Peabody Memorial Nursing Home, then at Bethesda Home in Goessel. Throughout the years, she formed many close friendships with the people she cared for, their families and her co-workers.
Cathie was a lifelong member of the Hesston United Methodist Church where she was actively involved in the life of the church until health issues no longer permitted.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert and Cecile Ruth; and one sister, Martha Ann Ruth.
Surviving are sister, Becky Ruth, and husband, Larry Fuqua of Hesston; one nephew and two nieces and their families, Phil and Kami Regier, Hesston, Rachel and Brad Short, Archbold, Ohio, and Molly and Mike Anderson, Williamsburg, Virginia; and aunt, Wilma (Stratton) Rife, Lawrence.
Cremation is planned with graveside services to be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Hesston City Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, P.O. Box 32, Hesston, KS 67062.
