OBITUARY: Mary Alice Davidson

Mary Alice Davidson, 85, passed away on April 27, 2019, at Kansas Christian Home of Newton.

Mary Alice was born on Nov. 2, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo. Her parents were Eugene and Myrle (Woody) Barbour.

Mary Alice graduated from Newton High School in 1952. She attended Bethel College and later transferred to the McPherson School of Practical Nursing and became an LPN. She served as an LPN at Blackwell General Hospital, Bethel Deaconess Hospital and Kansas Christian Home until her retirement in 1990.

She married Elmer Friesen in 1953, and he passed away in 1967. In 1973, she married Delmer Davidson, and they lived in Blackwell and Bartlesville, Okla., and later Newton. Delmer passed away in 2015 after 42 years of marriage.

Mary Alice was very active in the church. She served as an organist/pianist, choir member and on many other church committees. She also was a member of the Newton Order of the Eastern Star and a Worthy Matron of the Blackwell, Okla., OES chapter. She enjoyed reading and crocheting.

Mary Alice is survived by her son Richard Friesen and spouse, Karen; step-grandchildren, Kristy Espinosa and Stephanie Cash; and six step-great-grandchildren; and a close cousin, William (Bill) Woody and his spouse, Mary Ann. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. There will be no public visitation or committal.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Christian Church Music Fund.
