OBITUARY: Martha Adair

HALSTEAD—Martha Adair, 99, died Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at her residence.

She was born May 9, 1921, at Minden, Nebraska to Edgar and Jesse (Sallee) Hamilton.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church Halstead and was a Halstead resident since 1986.

Martha attended first through eighth grades in a one room school house at Minden, Nebraska.

She was a 1938 graduate of Fresno, California High School and was a 1942 graduate of Sterling College. Following her graduation from Sterling College, she attended Columbia School of Nursing, completing her LPN through a bridge course from Washburn University.

On June 12, 1945 Martha married William B. Adair at Fowler, California. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Following their marriage William and Martha traveled to Sudan where they were missionaries for 22 years.

Martha was very active in Halstead during her retirement. She was very active with church activities, volunteered at Neighbors for many years and was a very loyal patron of Halstead schools, attending numerous activities and games, home or away. She was often recognized by the teams, receiving flowers for her regular attendance at their games. She also received the Old Settlers Good Neighbor Award for her support of Halstead School sports.

 Martha is survived by sons: Edgar (Cindy) Adair, St. Louis Missouri; Timothy (Linda) Adair, Parker, Colorado; daughters: Kathleen Adair, St. Louis, Missouri, Gwenyth (John) Haspels, Halstead; eight grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Miriam Adair and brothers: Earl, Ralph, and Marion Hamilton.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2021 at First Mennonite Church, Halstead with Pastor Tony D’Olio officiating.

A private family inurnment will be held at Halstead Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Africa Inland Mission- John and Joy Haspels or The Antioch Partners- (TAP-Heather and Habtom Kebede) in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.
