OBITUARY: Margie Lee Crist

Margie Lee Crist went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 4, 2020.

Born on Feb. 20, 1933, in Wister, Okla., she was the youngest of eight children. Margie attended Fanshawe schools and never missed a single day of classes from kindergarten all the way through high school.

After graduating, she started working for the Santa Fe Railroad, where her career spanned 40 years. She moved to Newton in 1957, where she met Warren Leo Crist, who also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. They were married on April 18, 1959.  

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Alkalie Lucian (Doc) and Lula Frances Carpenter and siblings Ola, Bob, Ona, Almon, Luela, Vernon and Frank.  

Margie is survived by Warren Leo Crist, her husband of 61 years; their daughter, Tina Lee Schmidt and her husband, Larry Schmidt; and her grandson, Brandon Schmidt and his wife, Samantha Schmidt. Margie was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton for more than 50 years.  Some of her favorite activities were gardening, taking long walks, camping, volunteering at Cross Wind Conference Center and traveling around the country after her retirement. 

The family had a private interment ceremony on Monday, Dec. 7, at Greenwood Cemetery, with Pastor Chip Bungard officiating. A home-going celebration is planned for later in 2021. A memorial has been established in the name of First Baptist Church, Newton and may be left with Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
