Obituary: Mae Evelyn Frey

GOESSEL—Mae Evelyn Frey, 97, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, at Newton Presbyterian Manor.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1921, in Goessel, the daughter of Abe J. and Bertha Epp Banman. Mae graduated from Goessel High School and continued to live in Goessel until moving the Newton Presbyterian Manor nine years ago.

She married John W. Frey on May 26, 1944, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. John died on Feb. 27, 1995.

For 33 years, Mae worked in the food service area of the Goessel school district.

Survivors include her two daughters, Bonnie Gleason and husband Dana of Newton, and Jenny Walker of Fort Collins, Colo.; and one brother Edgar Banman of North Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; grandson Corbin Gleason; brother Earl Banman; and sister Ruth Schmidt.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Tabor Mennonite Church, 891 Chisholm Trail, Newton. Private family inurnment will take place at the Tabor Mennonite Church Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Gracie Sue Gleason Educational Fund and the building fund of Tabor Mennonite Church. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
