OBITUARY: Lester Eugene Wedel

ELBING—Lester Eugene Wedel, devoted son, husband, father and grandfather, went home to Heaven on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in Newton.

Lester was born on Aug. 2, 1941, to Stanley and Edith (Regier) Wedel of rural Newton.  He grew up on the farm and graduated from Whitewater High School in 1959.  In 1960, he married Delila Schrag. They were blessed with four children.

Dad’s loves were God, family and farming.  He enjoyed many years of singing with the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus and riding bicycle in the MCC Flatlander.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Delila, two sons, Lynn (Kathleen) and Lyle (Nicole), one daughter, Rachel (Todd), three grandchildren, extended family and many friends.  Going before him were his parents, a sister, Kathryn, and a son, LaVern.

Visitation was at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton on Tuesday, June 15, 1-8 p.m., with the family present 6-8 p.m.

Burial was in the Zion Church Cemetery at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, June 16, with the memorial service at Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing at 10:45 a.m.

A memorial has been established with Zion Mennonite Church and the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Kan., 67114
