HALSTEAD—Leota R. Huebert, 86, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 16, 2018.
She was born May 6, 1931, in Junction City to Hazel and Xavier Kiefer. Growing up on the farm, she attended country schools and graduated from La Junta, Colo., High School.
She moved to Halstead in 1949 to attend Halstead Hospital School of Nursing, which she graduated from in 1952. While there, she met and married Kurt Huebert on June 6, 1953. This marked the beginning of many wonderful adventures for them.
She and Kurt owned and operated Kurt’s Dari Inn for 18 years, and Leota also worked at Halstead Hospital for many years.
After retirement, she spent her time serving the community through Neighbors and the Presbyterian Church.
She loved traveling all over North America in their RV, fishing and sightseeing. She was an avid gardener, but enjoyed spending time with her family most of all. One of her greatest joys came while attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Survivors include daughters Kathy (Tim) Pierce, Karen (Carl) Hodges and Peg (Jack Herron) Rouse; grandchildren Ryan, Kyle, Matt, Chris, Katie, Sarah, Dietrich and Ben; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kurt; brothers Willis and Wayne Kiefer; and sisters, Anna Mae Thompson and Alice Terry.
The committal service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Halstead Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Halstead, with Pastor Tony D’Olio presiding.
Memorials may be sent to Neighbors, 263 Main, Halstead, KS 67056 or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, both in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.
