NEWTON—Laura “Peanut” LeForce, 57, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at her home in Newton.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1962, in Newton, the daughter of Harold and Dorothy Smith Berg. Her dad gave Laura the nickname Peanut, which has stayed with her.
Laura was raised in the Newton area, graduating from Newton High School. She was a bright and shining light to everyone who she met. Being good hearted, Laura always tried to help others out.
For 20 years, she has worked for Dillons Grocery and was the manager of the floral department of the North Dillons Store in Newton for several years.
Survivors include her companion, Rueben Monarez of the home in Newton; daughter, Denesa Diaz of Wichita; brothers, David Berg of Bennington and Hank Berg of Halstead; sister, Sherry Axsom of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kaleb and Aidan Diaz of Newton and Scarlett Smith of Wichita; along with several nieces and nephews.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dustin LeForce; and sister, Carol Martin.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Golden Plains Free Methodist Church of rural Newton. Interment will be in the Marion Cemetery.
The casket was open Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton. A memorial has been established with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Kan., 67114.
