OBITUARY: Larson Woelk

Larson Woelk, 93, passed away on March 31, 2024, in Overland Park.

Larson was born on May 25, 1930, in Newton to Alvin and Linda (Galle) Woelk.

Larson graduated from Walton High School in 1948. He was the state champion in high jump, long jump and 100-yard dash in that division.

For 35 years, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier.

Larson married Donna Ortmann on April 19, 1955, in Newton. The couple had two children, Tim and David.

Larson was best known for bowling and gardening.

Larson also served in the Army in Europe after World War II.

Larson is survived by his son, David (Laurie) Woelk; daughter-in-law, Cindi Woelk; and three grandchildren, Sarah Weekley, Janelle Haverty and Sam Woelk. He also has five great-grandchildren, Eli, Olivia, Georgia, Ford and Patrick.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Woelk; son, Tim Woelk; parents, Alvin and Linda Woelk; and siblings, Lamont, Leland, Loren and Artis.

The service for Larson Woelk will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be the evening prior from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorial donations can be made in Larson’s name to American Legion Post #2 in Newton, Kansas.
