Larry G. Jacob, 81, passed away in his home, surrounded by his family on Oct. 2, 2021.
Larry was born in Wichita on June 29, 1940, the son of Arthur Homer and Clarice Aleyne (Bright) Jacob. He grew up in rural Sedgwick County and attended Valley Center High School, graduating with the class of 1958.
On Dec. 16, 1961, Larry was united in marriage to Donna Hale. The two settled west of Valley Center, later moving into the City of Sedgwick.
Larry was involved with agriculture his whole life, growing up on a farm west of Valley Center. Shortly after marriage, he started in the dairy business, later giving that up to start custom silage harvesting in 1971. As his sons grew up, they joined him on the road, with Donna book-keeping and taking care of things at home. By the mid ’80s, he started working at the Halstead Bank, followed by several years in the insurance business and also farm management.
He and the family enjoyed many trips to Ft. Gibson Lake and lso many trips to Colorado Springs to see family.
He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church. He served on the city council and other community and local boards.
Larry is survived by his children, Mark (Rebecca) Jacob, Rob Jacob, Rick Jacob, Christy (Aaron Gardner); long-time friend and companion, Sandy Giffin; grandchildren, Drew (Ashley) Jordan, Aaron Jordan, Kaela Harrington, Paige (Craig) Simon, Kelli Sleefe, Nicole Jacob, and nine great-grandchildren. Many of Sandy’s grandchildren considered him like a grandpa, too, and he loved them as his own; and brothers, Don Jacob and Wayne Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna L. (Hale) Jacob; and his brother, Robert Jacob.
A visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Sedgwick. A graveside service will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
