OBITUARY: Larry D. Becker

Larry D. Becker, 82, died April 17, 2022, at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton.

He was born March 4, 1940, in Beaver, Okla., to Aldo and Mary Ann (Boese) Becker. On Aug. 12, 1960, he married Patricia Jean Harms at Meade, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 2008.

He was a longtime active member of the First Mennonite Church in Newton. He could be found most Sundays, special events and funeral services in the audio-visual booth.

Larry attended Bethel College in North Newton and worked a career in information technology.  His passion for computers and audio visual continued throughout his career. He worked for Mennonite Church USA (General Conference) for 50 years. He also served as the North Newton city treasurer for 30 years. After retirement, Larry served a term as a Kidron Bethel board member and provided I.T. support at Kidron.

Larry’s greatest joy was his family, and he loved the times they spent together.

Larry is survived by children Bryan (Kathy) Becker of North Newton, Brenda (Scott) Moyar of Newton, and Bruce (Christina) Becker of Newberg, Ore.; grandchildren Alyssa Becker of Wichita, Wade Becker of Newberg, Ore., Kyle Becker (Abby Anderson) Greeley, Colo., and Aspen Becker of Newberg, Ore.; and brothers, Bob (Donna) Becker, Newton, and Randy Becker, Liberal.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at First Mennonite Church in Newton with Pastors Laura Goerzen and Matt Kruse presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. Private family interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials may be made to First Mennonite Church or Kidron Bethel and may be left with Petersen Funeral Home.
