Kevin Leroy Duerksen, 62, of Newton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 19, 1959, in Hillsboro, the son of Leroy Gerhard and Mary Jane (Curry) Duerksen.
Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Hesston, where he grew up and graduated from Hesston High School with the class of 1978.
While “dragging main,” Kevin met his wife, Kathleen “Kathy” Swoyer, and they were married on Oct. 21, 1978, in Hesston for 43 short years. She survives of the home.
Kevin had many interests and was involved with the Newton Saddle Club for 30 years and was a leader for 4-H Shooting Sports in Harvey County for 30 years. Kevin was a member of the Chisholm Trail Gunfighting Club in the 1990s. He taught Hunter Safety for 33 years and enjoyed collecting firearms. Kevin loved to go horseback riding and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Kathy of Newton; daughter, Tabitha (Ryan) Hughes; son, Jacob (Taylor Randle) Duerksen; and his pride and joy’s and buddies, his two grandchildren, Kassidy and Kinsey Hughes. He also is survived by his brother, Jon Duerksen; and sister, Laurie Duerksen.
A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Kingdom Life Ministries, Hesston. Memorial contributions may be made to Harvey County 4-H in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, P.O. Box 32, Hesston, Kan., 67062.
