Obituary: Kathyrn L. Wheaton

Kathryn L. Wheaton, 79, died on Friday, April 15, at Asbury Park in Newton.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1936, to Royal and Wilhelmina (Rudginsky) Berggren in Menominee, Mich.

Kathryn worked in many positions throughout her working career. She grew up on a farm and had a strong work ethic. She loved to joke, laugh and share her opinions with other people. She took great care of her children and grandchildren. She loved family gatherings and just being with her whole family brought her great joy and satisfaction. Her family will remember Kathryn as a wonderful cook, seamstress mother and especially her love and commitment to them.

She was survived by her children: David (Bobbie) Wheaton, Carolyn (Curtis) Kuntz, Cheryl (Dennis) Brown, Cynthia (Gary) Glasscock and Karen (Bob) Van Horn; brothers: John and Franklin Berggen; and 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother Royal and Wilhelmina Berggen; brothers Richard, Carl and Lawrence Berggren; and sister Alice Green.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. The family will greet friends and family from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. An inurnment will occur at a later date in Michigan.

A memorial has been established for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 606 N. Main Street, Suite 202, Newton, KS 67114.
