OBITUARY: John Pjesky

HALSTEAD—John M. Pjesky, 89, died Sunday, April 4, 2021, at NMC Health, Newton.

He was born Jan. 17, 1932 at Halstead, to John Carl and Martha (Schmidt) Pjesky

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Halstead and Wichita facilities, retiring after 38 years. He also was the maintenance man for the Halstead Bank for 30 years

When he wasn’t working he loved to play golf. Watching the Royals, Chiefs and KU basketball filled any additional free time as did attending his grandsons’ many school and sporting events.

Family vacations to Lake City, Colorado were special times for John and his family. He could usually be found at one the many trout streams or on the Jeep trails during their time there.

He was a member First Mennonite Church, Halstead and served three years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

On Nov. 12, 1954 he married Joan D. Klassen at First Mennonite Church, Newton; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include a son: Dave (Karen) Pjesky, Halstead; grandsons Matthew Pjesky, Kansas City, Missouri, and Andrew Pjesky, Westwood, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by a sister, LaVera Vaughn.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead, the family will greet friends for 6:30-8 p.m..

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2021 at First Mennonite Church, Halstead, with Pastor Stephen Wilcox officiating.

Burial will follow at Halstead Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to First Mennonite Church, Halstead or Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.
