OBITUARY: John Burns

NEWTON—John Burns passed away Aug. 13, 2022, at ComfortCare Homes in Newton.

He was born in Wichita, KS on July 24, 1945, to George and Annabel Burns. He proudly served in the U.S. Army before meeting the love of his life, Bentura “Penny” Corona. They were married Jan. 9, 1971, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.

John and Penny lived in Newton and raised four children, Christopher, Brian, Nichole and Chad.

John was employed by Cessna Aircraft in Wichita. John and Penny celebrated 34 years of marriage before Penny passed away from cancer in 2005. John missed Penny dearly but found enjoyment playing golf and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was a devout Catholic and spent much of his time at his church, Our Lady of Guadalupe.

John is survived by his children, Chris Burns (Sandy Navarro), Brian Burns (Julie), Nichole Willis (Ward) and Chad Burns; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Burns and Annabel Orman, his wife

Penny Burns, his grandson Ian Burns and great-grandson Oliver Davidson.

The casket was open noon-5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the funeral home.

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary was at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 18, also at the church. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Kan. 67114.
