BURRTON—James Thompson, 82, died July 21, 2021 at his home in Burrton.
He was born Dec. 17, 1938 to Cecil and Priscilla Thompson in Hutchinson.
James was a 1956 graduate of Burrton High School. He served as a heavy equipment operator for Harvey County, until moving to California where he continued to be a heavy equipment operator until retiring at age 67. His involvement in his local union was very important to him.
On Sept. 24, 2005 he married Linda Saul. The couple has spent a total of 26 years together. A month after their marriage, they moved to Burrton to the house James grew up in.
The love of James’s life was his Harley Sportser motorcycle, which he bought in 2010. He took trips everywhere on it and was a frequent participant in poker runs and breast cancer fundraisers.
James is survived by his wife, Linda Thompson, of the home; his brother Don Thompson of Colwich; a daughter Tracy (Mike) Maxey and grandson Ryan of Illinois; a stepson David Wolf of Englewood, California; a stepdaughter Machelle (Damon) Massey of Santa Clarita, California, and a step-granddaughter Jazzmen Gardley of Burrton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service for James will be held at 10 a.m., Aug. 21. Meet at the library in Burrton for a procession down Main Street to Burrton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Burrton Food Pantry. Checks may be written to ICC and mailed to 6301 S. Sandhill Rd., Burrton, 67020, or there will be a donation box at the cemetery during the memorial service.
