On Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, James (Jim) Runnells died joining his beloved wife Joan (Timmie).
Born on September 25, 1928, he is preceded in death by his parents Clarissa and Marion, sister Jody and his brother Milton.
He is survived by seven children, Diana (Mike) Roberts, Janice Puttroff, Mark (Alysia) Runnells, Patti (Barry) Hardman, Carol (Ed) Salsbery, Jim (Jodi) Runnells and Rosemary (Darrell) Boger; 28 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by brother Jerry Runnells.
He joined the Navy in 1944 and was transferred to the Construction Battalion (Seabee’s). He served four years active duty then entered the Reserves retiring in 1976.
He went to work for KG&E/Westar in 1952, and after 38 years, he retired in 1990.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary was on Monday, Sept. 26, at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
Mass of Christian Burial was on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
