OBITUARY: James Royce Brunk

James Royce Brunk, 85, of Hesston, died on Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

Royce was born on April 8, 1935, in Hutchinson to Willard F. and Erma J. (Miller) Brunk. On June 8, 1957, he married Ardith Dianne Freyenberger in Wayland, Iowa. He received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Bethel College in Newton, Kansas and a Master’s Degree from Arizona State University. He taught school in Arizona, India, Hesston and Seoul, South Korea. After his teaching career he worked in the education department of Wichita State University.

Royce is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ardith; his children, Rene (Debi) Brunk of Hesston and Jodi (Doug) Dick of Wichita; four grandchildren, Jordan (Alisha) Brunk of Kansas City, Missouri, Casey (Lori) Brunk of Portland, Oregon, Melanie (John) Schall of Wichita, and Joel (Indica) Dick of Wichita; four great grandchildren, Bethany, Sophia, Audrey and Olivia; a sister, Louise (Mike) Zimmerman of Boise, Idaho, and a brother, Ron (Charles) Brunk-Parker of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his parents Willard and Erma Brunk, and a sister Marjori Nice.

Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, October 31, at 9:30 am at Hesston Mennonite Church on the campus of Hesston College. It will be live streamed on www.hesstonmennonite.org. As requested his body has been donated to the University of Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Hesston College, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 32, Hesston, KS 67062.
