James Francis Chaffee III, 74, of Kings Mountain, N.C., passed away peacefully on July 6, 2019, at his home.
Jim, “Mike,” was born in Newton. He was the son of the late James F. Chaffee Jr. and Lora Keady Chaffee. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Dan Chaffee. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved history and he was retired after more than 30 years of service in the trolling motor industry. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara Phillips Chaffee, Kings Mountain, N.C.; son, Scott Chaffee, Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Diana Price and husband, Erik, Kings Mountain, N.C.; five grandchildren, Dany Harris, Kassie Carnes, Mikayla Price, Silas Price and Connor Chaffee; five great-grandchildren, Bridget, Alex, Scout, Sawyer and Claire; and brothers, Gary Chaffee and Myron Chaffee, Newton.
Requiem mass was at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 12, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Kings Mountain, N.C., with Father Kottar officiating.
Memorial service was at 2 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Eric Sellers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorials are sent to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, N.C., 28150.
