Ila Jean Sauerwein, 94, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at Paramount Health and Rehab in Newton. She was born July 24, 1927, in Newton to O.F. and Ella (Poutz) Cummings.
On May 30, 1948, she married Robert “Bob” Sauerwein in Newton and he preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 2000.
Ila Jean was a longtime active member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Newton.
She is survived by her son, Terry and his wife, Carol Sauerwein of Newton, their three children and their families including eight grandchildren.
Ila Jean is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Dr. Tom Sauerwein. She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Earl, Lester and Warren and sisters, Gladys, Ruth, Erma and Thada.
A visitation was from 5-9 p.m., Monday, Jan. 31, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. A private family service was with Pastor Willy Banza officiating, and the burial in Restlawn Gardens of Memory. A celebration memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at Salem United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and left with Petersen Funeral Home.
