Obituary: Harold Eugene Funk

Harold Eugene Funk, 72, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at Newton Medical Center following a battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 5, 1943, in Goessel to Marion and Elnora (Reimer) Funk. On Aug. 7, 1964, he married Sherry Ann Cummings in Newton, and they shared 51 years of marriage together.

In his early years, Harold was a lifeguard at the Newton City Pool. He was a 1961 graduate of Newton High School. Harold started working at Hesston Corp. in 1963. He became an engineering manager in 1999. Harold retired from AGCO with a total of nearly 47 years of service and dedication. He greatly enjoyed his years at AGCO and the many friends he made. Following his retirement, he enjoyed giving tours of the production facilities. Harold enjoyed cars, especially his ’72 Chevy Chevelle SS, trains and his beloved Boston terriers. His greatest joy in life was his loving family and friends. He greatly looked forward to spending time with his loving wife, daughter, granddaughter and many friends he has made.

He was a member of the Newton Rail Rodders, Wichita Corvette Club and the Mac Area Cruisers.

He is survived by his wife Sherry of the home; daughter Ginger Funk of Moundridge; and granddaughter Morgan Funk of Moundridge.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Terry Funk.

Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Donna Voteau presiding. Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Central Care Cancer Center or Angel Attic in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
