OBITUARY: Guillermo ‘Willie’ Reyes Monares

Guillermo “Willie” Reyes Monares, 83, passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, in Hesston.

He was born in Smelter Town, Texas, to Locadio and Maria (Reyes) Monares. Willie served in the U.S. Army and a Korean War Veteran. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, and after 25 years, retiring from Cargill Corp.

He was preceded in death by his son Antonio “Tony” Monarez, his parents, brothers Carlos, Angel, Tino Monarez, and sister Olivia Raya.

Willie is survived by his lady friend Gayle Franz; his children, Guillermo “Willie” Monarez Jr., Larry Gallardo, Angel Monares and Lisa Sutherland; grandchildren, Connor Monarez, Shelby Gallardo, Jessica Lee, Jace Kalaamveka, Chelsea Kafaamveka, Chloe Striegel and Gabriel Gallardo; great-grandchildren, Cooper Gallardo, Mikale Lee, Moriah Lee, Kai Striegel and Gabbie Lee; brothers Emilio, Jimmy and Louis; sisters Mona, Katherine and Sally; and many other family and friends.

Rosary is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, and Mass at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 421 S. Ash, Newton.
