Gordon Hobbs, 80, originally from Turon, died Sept. 1, 2023, at Paramount Community Living and Rehab, Newton. He was born Sept. 24, 1942, in Turon to Francis L. and Mildred P. (Martin) Hobbs.
Gordon graduated from Turon High School in 1960 and attended Hutchinson Community College. On Nov. 19, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Marsha Hobbs.
Gordon moved back to Turon in 1973 to take over the family farm. He retired and moved to Hutchinson after farming for 40 years. He enjoyed raising livestock and being outdoors, but driving the combine for wheat harvest was his favorite. Gordon loved dogs and always had at least one by his side or on his lap. Gordon was an athlete as a young man and known to be ornery, pestering his grandchildren even up until his last days. He had a passion for old cars, and in later years, he enjoyed entering his own antique cars in local car shows and parades. In retirement, Gordon and Marsha could be found dining out, visiting a casino or playing games with cherished friends. Gordon was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Gordon is survived by his daughters, Sheli (Jim) DeVolder, Spring, Texas, Kim (Mike) Hall, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Melissa (Stephen) Dick, Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Matthew DeVolder, Spring, Texas, Jacob DeVolder, Nashville, Tenn., Nathaniel (Stephanie) Edwards, Albany, N.Y., Alex Dick, Omaha, Neb., and Allyson Dick, Omaha, Neb.; sister, Donna (Bob) Keller, High Point, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marsha, and an infant son, Rick Alan.
A Celebration of Life Service for both Gordon and Marsha will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Turon Community Church. Friends are invited to join the family in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
