Obituary: Gloria H. Garcia

Gloria H. Garcia, 88, died Monday, July 16, 2018, at the Asbury Park in Newton.

She was born on Aug. 3, 1929, in Wichita, the daughter of Francisco and Dominga de la Tejera de Castro.

Gloria married James Dominque Garcia on Oct. 8, 1949, in Seattle.

For many years, Gloria had worked as a housekeeper in Newton. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children, Anita Llamas and husband Mario of Newton, Angie Jaso and husband Richard of McKinney, Texas, Rita Rubio and husband Juan, Jesse Garcia and wife Pauline, Cynthia Reyes, Cecelia Garcia Romero, Joe Garcia and Lucinda Christianson, all of Newton; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Gloria is also survived by her siblings, Graciela Juarez of Wichita, Yolanda Garcia of Andover, Oscar Castro of Wichita, Blanche Covington of Plano, Texas; sisters-in-law Elesa Garcia, Carol Martinez and Mary Garcia, all of Newton; and brother-in-law Richard Atkinson Sr. of Newton.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Nov. 22, 1988; daughter Barbara Florez; and brothers Louis Castro, Bernie Castro and Victor Castro.

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 22, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call from 1 to p.m. Sunday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
