OBITUARY: Gilbert E. ‘Gib’ Koehn

Gilbert E. “Gib” Koehn, 92, of Hesston, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

He was born July 15, 1929, in Montezuma, Kan., the son of Edward B. and Josephine (Dutton) Koehn.

He was a conductor brakeman for the Sante Fe Railroad for 41 years.

Gib was a member of the Hesston Mennonite Church.

He was united in marriage to Irene Hostetler on Sept. 15, 1950 in Hesston. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2013.

Survivors include his sons, Gary (Donna) Koehn of Hesston and Galen Koehn of Hesston; five grandchildren, Chris (Amber) Koehn of Hesston, Jennifer (Matthew) King of Wichita, Lauri (Travis) Lee of Topeka, Dustin Koehn of Newton, and Marie Koehn of Hesston; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine (Max) Grenard of La Junta, Colo.; and brother, Milton (Sue) Koehn of Montezuma.

Gib was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Koehn; parents; and seven siblings.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Hesston City Cemetery, with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m., Whitestone Mennonite Church, 629 Crescent Drive, Hesston, KS 67062.  Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home of Hesston.  Memorial contributions may be made to Schowalter Villa in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, P.O.
