OBITUARY: Gary Lee Galemore

Gary Lee Galemore, 72, of Sedgwick passed away Oct. 23, 2019, at his home. Gary was born Oct. 7, 1947, in La Mesa, Calif., to Alva and Wilma (Issac) Galemore.

Gary was drafted after high school and served during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged once his tour of duty was over. After the service, he went to the University of Maryland on a G.I. Bill. Upon graduating, he went right into working for the U.S. government as an analyst for Congressional Research Service in Washington, D.C., on Capitol Hill.

Gary married Debra Kay Taylor on July 24, 1998, in Dale city, Va. After retirement, the couple moved to Sedgwick and bought a farm. He enjoyed many aspects of living in the country, such as caring for their horses and dogs. Gary enjoyed conversations about the Civil War and the battlefields in Virgina and Pennsylvania. His family says he was so knowledgeable you would think he was a tour guide.

Gary is survived by his wife Debra of the home; three children, Kevin, Sheila and Meredith, and two chosen children, Lachelle Lavenant and husband Lance of Wichita, and Christopher Rumford of Parsons,; brothers, Monty Canfield, Greg Galemore and wife Julie, Mark Galemore and wife Kathy; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother; Zack Galemore.

Cremation has been requested by the family, and services will be at a later date.

Family suggests memorials to Caring Hands Humane Society or the American Heart Association and may be sent in care of Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS, 67114.
