Elizabeth “Ellen” (Brainard) Schneider, 83, of Newton, Kansas, passed away on Oct. 17, 2023, at Paramount Community Living and Rehab.
She was born Nov. 30, 1939, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Roy and Lena (Nickel) Brainard. On June 14, 1958, she married Lavern “Skeet” Schneider in Newton, Kansas. They were married for 55 years prior to his death in 2013. They owned Skeet’s Repair & Service for 35 years before retiring in 2005. She enjoyed genealogy and her time volunteering at the Harvey County Historical Society.
Ellen is survived by her children, Ronald (Jeana) Schneider of Hesston, Valerie Schneider (John Dowling) of Phoenix and Cheryl (Bryan) Kristenson of Newton; sisters, Beverly Willems and Susie Ashcraft of Newton; brother, Roy Brainard of Garden City; grandchildren, Clint (Liz) Schneider, Rachelle Schneider (Josh Atkins) and Scott (Tabby) Kristenson; and great grandchildren, Angelica and Leonard Schneider.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Robert Brainard.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church at 200 W 6th St Newton, KS, 67114.
