OBITUARY: Dr. Varden J. Loganbill

Dr. Varden J. Loganbill, 94, of Moundridge, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Pine Village. He was born April 17, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Jesse and Evangeline (Becker) Loganbill.

Varden married Luella Zerger on May 31, 1950. He was a graduate of Bluffton High School, Bethel College and The Kansas University School of Medicine in Kansas City. Upon graduating, Varden completed his internship at Wesley Hospital in Wichita and then began his private practice in McPherson. After one year, the family moved to Moundridge where Varden, with his partner, Dr. Willard Kaufman, began their medical practice. He served the Moundridge and Inman communities for more than 40 years.

In addition to his medical practice, Varden was an integral part of the church and community. He served First Mennonite Church of Christian in many capacities. He was a member of Lion’s Club, served on the school board and was instrumental in bringing the swimming pool, tennis courts and park shelters to Moundridge. Varden was an avid supporter of Bethel College, as well as numerous other Mennonite and philanthropic organizations. Varden’s love for family, caring demeanor, commitment to others and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Marcus (Cynthia) Loganbill, Valerie (John) Klaassen and Blair (Lisa) Loganbill; brother, Denard Loganbill; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Joyce Zerger, Kathleen (Kerm) Wedel, Ted (Vera) Zerger, Carol Jenner and Ed Altman; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Megan (Brad), Daniel (Megan), Christian (Jaimie), Patrick, Genet, Alec (Stephanie) and Mia; and four great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Lawrence, Eliza and Kasen.

Varden was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Luella; brothers, Fernan and Lanoy Loganbill; and numerous extended family members.

Private family graveside services will be at First Mennonite Cemetery, Moundridge. A memorial service will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel College or Pine Village in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
