Obituary: Doris Louise Regier

Doris Louise Regier, rural Newton and Kidron Bethel, was born on May 22, 1932, in Newton to Titus and Elizabeth (Winey) Horst.

Doris grew up on a farm in the Highland community north of Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1950. Doris graduated from the Bethel nursing program in 1955 as a registered nurse. She was baptized in the First Church of the Nazarene, Newton, and was a member of Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing. Doris met Menno Regier in Kansas City, and they were married on April 1, 1957, making their home on a farm in rural Newton.

Doris loved nursing and balanced various nursing positions with that of being a homemaker. She enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren and in particular looked forward to summer harvest when all the grandchildren would come to the farm to “help” with wheat harvest. Doris also enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader.

She is survived by two sons, Myron and wife Lori of Haysville, and James and wife Debra of Whitewater; sister Grace Ketterman of Leawood; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Menno, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation was on Sunday, April 15, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. The memorial service was on Monday, April 16, at Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing. Private family burial will be at Zion Mennonite Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Bethel College Nursing Program and may be sent to Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS 67114.
