OBITUARY: Dora Ruth Unruh

Dora Ruth Unruh, 90, of rural Peabody, Kan., passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Bethesda Nursing Home in Goessel. She was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Goessel, Kan., the daughter of Arnold S. and Eva (Janzen) Goertzen.

Dora graduated from Goessel High School with the class of 1949.

She was baptized and a member of Tabor Mennonite Church, rural Newton.

Dora was united in marriage to Charles D. Unruh on Jan. 24, 1952, at Tabor Mennonite Church. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2013.

She was a devoted homemaker and helped on the family farm. She also was a bus driver for USD-373 of Newton for 35 years.

Dora is survived by her sons, Lewis (Carrie) Unruh of Peabody, Harlin (Doris) Unruh of Peabody, and James (Karen) Unruh of Clay Center; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dora was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elma Goertz and Mathilda “Tillie” Neuenschwander; and brothers, Milton Goertzen and Orlando Goertzen.

Cremation is planned, with memorial services to be held at 6 p.m., Friday, May 28, at Tabor Mennonite Church. Private inurnment will be held at the church cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, May 27, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 96, Goessel, KS, 67053.
